Wow – July was one great month! Kudos goes out to each and every one of you who helped represent our Post this month, whether it be at Westerville’s 4th Friday (Special thanks to Comrade Ralph Smith), at one of the three military family day’s we attended this month, or visiting our fellow comrades in the hospital or nursing homes. Being active in the community is very special – but it’s even more personified when you’re a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States!

As you most likely are aware, one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) events of the year for our Post is almost one week away – The 2nd Annual “Shock & Awe” Charity Golf Classic is coming up on Saturday, August 14th at Village View Golf Course in Croton. We are only 16 golfers away from completely filling our event – so if you’re thinking about golfing in this great event – don’t waste any time and sign up ASAP! Special rate for VFW Post 7883 members is $40/person (General rate is $55/person and non-VFW Post 7883 members and veterans are $50/per person). Rate includes 18 holes, cart, post-outing HOG ROAST with all the trimmings, raffles, prizes, and much more. $2.00 ice cold beers served all day long. Proceeds of the Shock & Awe Golf Classic will benefit the VFW National Home for Children and the VFW Military Assistance Program (MAP). If you don’t golf, enjoy the Hog Roast for only $5/plate all-you-can-eat!

On July 11th, VFW Post 7883 proudly donated $1,250 via a grant from National VFW for the 174th Air Defense Artillery Brigade’s annual family day picnic. The 174th also presented our Post with a beautifully framed token of their appreciation which will be proudly on display for every monthly meeting we’ll have this year. Special thanks to Comrade Kevin Lytton for coordinating such a great day!

On the following weekend, Comrade Walt Malys and I represented VFW Post 7883 at the 134th Field Artillery Regiment’s family day in south Columbus. Again, we both had a great time meeting the troops and their families – but I kept Walt far away from any corn-hole games.

This past weekend, yours truly represented VFW Post 7883 on the VFW Department of Ohio’s Caravan to the VFW National Home for Children. This place never ceases to amaze me and is so very touching when you get to talk to the children, and their families about where they came from and how much the National Home has helped turn their lives around! Also, BIG TIME OHIO VFW KUDOS for raising over $43,000 for the National Home this past weekend!

Don’t forget – Next VFW Post 7883 monthly meeting is Wednesday, August 11th at 7:00pm. Special guest speaker will be Brigadier General Rufus J. Smith, Commander of the 174 ADA Brigade. Also, Sr. Vice Ed Hasson will host a pre-meeting cookout at 6:30pm with brats, side dish, and beverages.

In closing, please keep Comrade Morris Briggs and the Briggs family in your thoughts and prayers and wish Morris a speedy recovery!

Start practicing your golf swing!

In Comradeship,

Ben Quinn
